'Stay together' - Max Lowe makes Sheffield Wednesday squad admission as fans make contract plea
Sheffield Wednesday’s supporters are desperate for Max Lowe to sign a new contract to remain at Hillsborough this summer.
Defender Max Lowe has underlined the importance of Sheffield Wednesday’s players sticking together following the beginning of a new dawn at Hillsborough.
Following months of chaos and carnage, Wednesday were finally able to draw a line under the events of the last 12 months or so on Saturday following confirmation that Arise Capital Partners LLC had bought the club out of administration.
The deal was completed on Friday, meaning consortium members David Storch, Michael Storch and Tom Costin were introduced to the Wednesday faithful ahead of Saturday’s 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion at Hillsborough.
The Owls marked the occasion by securing their first home win in just over a year, meaning they avoided being relegated with a negative points tally. The win over the Baggies, sealed via first half goals from Nathaniel Chalobah and Liam Palmer, meant the Owls finished on zero.
Although Wednesday won just two of their 46 Championship matches this term, Henrik Pedersen’s players could not be accused of downing tools at any point, refusing to let the situation give them an excuse to wave the white flag. To their credit, Wednesday lost just two of their last six matches.
Wednesday’s improvements towards the end of the campaign coincided with the return of Lowe from a lengthy stint on the sidelines, and his performance against the Baggies only increased calls for him to sign a new deal to remain at Hillsborough. His contract is up this summer and Wednesday are understood not to have the option to trigger an extension.
Although the defender has not made any comments about his future, he has highlighted the importance of Wednesday’s players remaining together after finally being offered a way out of a long, dark tunnel.

“I’m not an emotional guy but today has hit me hard,” Lowe confessed, speaking to Wednesday’s in-house media. “Tonight, I’m going to have a few drinks with Palms [Liam Palmer] and I think we’re going to sit back and think about how emotional this season has been and how proud I am of the boys.
“To see Will [Grainger] starting today... it is a special group, and I think we need to stay together because we’re on the up now.”
There are so many good characters within the group and I think that is why we have made it so strong together, and today it showed. Whoever comes on, everyone is ready.
“There is a real togetherness and there are some really special characters within the team.”
On helping Wednesday secure a first home win of the season, Lowe added: “It’s probably the most nervous I’ve been all season because I think it is the least our fans deserve.
“We are buzzing, you know. The fans deserved it, Henrik deserved it; he has worked so hard behind the scenes. I am just proud of the boys.
“We have got a lot of young boys and I think today they showed how much the club means to them. I have enjoyed every minute of it. It is something we can all be proud of because it has been a tough season.”
