'Not enough' - Sheffield Wednesday boss outlines boost his team will get this week

Sheffield Wednesday came through a demanding period with maximum points after edging their way past Peterborough United.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen is looking forward to getting some much-needed time on the Middlewood Road training pitches this week following a run of three games in eight days.

Wednesday brought a very busy week to a close by climbing to the League One summit with a 2-1 win over Peterborough United at the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday afternoon, marking a third win in as many games.

After brushing Bromley aside at Hillsborough just over a week ago with a 7-2 victory, the Owls built on that fantastic result and performance by digging deep to secure six points on the road against Wycombe Wanderers and Peterborough, respectively.

Two away games in five days meant that Wednesday were denied as much time as they would have liked out on the grass at their Middlewood Road training ground between matches, with plenty of focus being invested in recovery time.

However, Wednesday have a clear midweek this week, meaning they will be able to prepare for Saturday’s clash with Wigan Athletic at Hillsborough without the distraction of a midweek assignment — a scenario that Pedersen is grateful for.

“If I'm looking behind the result, there are so many things we want to do better,” Pedersen told the Owls’ YouTube channel. “We can see now that we are a new group.

“We have not trained so much in the last ten days because we have had many games. Only speaking about how we want to do it is not enough; we need to train it.

“It was clear to see it was the third game (of the week) and it was clear to see the rhythm in the game. I'm really, really looking forward now to some good training weeks where we can come deeper in all the principles so we can take some steps forward.”

Reflecting on the significance of winning three games in a week, Pedersen added: “We have to be really, really proud of this week with three wins. We can see we have a strong, strong culture and we have some boys who will burn for Sheffield Wednesday.

“They love to be here and they'll do everything they can. We also see that we have so many things that we have to do better, and for this we need training time, and it's starting on Tuesday again."
