Sheffield Wednesday will lock horns with Notts County in a league fixture for the first time in over 14 years when they make the trip to Meadow Lane on Tuesday evening.
The duo arrived in League One this season via different directions after the Owls were relegated from the Championship and Notts were promoted from League Two after beating Salford City 3-0 in the play-off final at Wembley.
Since they last faced each other in the league, Wednesday have come within touching distance of the Premier League, experienced two promotions and two relegations, and endured a spell in administration. Meanwhile, Notts have suffered two relegations, spent four seasons in the National League and secured two promotions.
The sides last met in the league at Meadow Lane in March 2012, when Wednesday won 2-1, extending Dave Jones’ winning start as Owls manager after he had replaced Gary Megson just over a fortnight earlier. The Owls secured all three points via second half goals from Ryan Lowe and Gary Madine.
More than 14 years on from their last league meeting, here is a look back at how the Owls lined up that day...

5. LB: Julian Bennett
Formerly of Nottingham Forest, Bennett started at left-back the last time Wednesday visited Meadow Lane. He was another arrival ahead of the start of the 2011/12 campaign and shared the left-back responsibilities with Reda Johnson. Bennett scored in Wednesday’s 2-1 home win over Notts earlier that season. He left Hillsborough at the end of the 2012/13 season and was forced to retire two years later because of a longstanding knee injury. | Getty Images

6. RM: Michail Antonio
After arriving on loan from Reading a few weeks earlier, Antonio had quickly made his mark in Wednesday colours. He added another assist to his collection against Notts, setting up Lowe’s opener with a driving run and a low cross. He played a starring role in Wednesday’s push for promotion and became a permanent Owl in the summer of 2012. He went on to have spells with Nottingham Forest and West Ham United before a serious car accident in December 2024 threatened to end his career. He joined Watford last month but has yet to make his debut. | Getty Images

7. CM: José Semedo
Semedo will always have a place in the hearts of Wednesdayites. Signed on a free transfer in the summer of 2011, the former Portuguese midfielder spent six years at Hillsborough, making 167 appearances for the Owls. A vital cog in the team’s promotion-winning campaign in 2011/12, Semedo displayed the dedication and commitment that any aspiring footballer could learn from. He is now the CEO of Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, which famously signed Cristiano Ronaldo in 2023. | Getty Images

8. CM: Chris Lines
Recruited from Bristol Rovers in August 2011, Lines quickly established himself as a key player at Hillsborough. Helping Wednesday secure promotion in 2011/12, the midfielder scored three goals and registered 11 assists in the league alone. After a pre-season injury forced him to miss the first three months of the following campaign, Lines departed on loan in January 2013, joining MK Dons before eventually leaving permanently later that year. He is currently the manager of non-league side Roman Glass St. George. | Getty Images
