Henrik Pedersen reveals big Sheffield Wednesday injury concern ahead of Charlton Athletic clash
Svante Ingelsson has been struggling with a knee injury recently, and it could force him to miss Saturday’s clash with Charlton Athletic.
Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Svante Ingelsson is a “big doubt” for Saturday’s Championship clash with Charlton Athletic, with manager Henrik Pedersen admitting the Swede may require surgery.
Ingelsson, who is a leading candidate to be crowned Wednesday’s Player of the Season, was unable to complete the full 90 minutes against Coventry City at the Coventry Building Society Arena last weekend.
Uncharacteristically, the former Hansa Rostock man, who has been a source of energy and consistency this season, was substituted with just 61 minutes on the clock, being replaced by Olaf Kobacki. At the time it was thought he had been withdrawn due to the fact he had been wrongly shown a first half yellow card for an alleged challenge on Coventry attacker Haji Wright.
However, Pedersen revealed to The Star after the game that Ingelsson had “not trained much” ahead of the trip to Coventry Building Society Arena due to a knee issue.
The Wednesday boss has now confirmed Ingelsson, who has featured in all but two of the Owls’ 42 Championship matches this season, is in a race against time to be available for the visit of Nathan Jones’ men, admitting it is an injury that may end up requiring surgery.
“Svante is a big doubt, he still has a problem with his knee,” Pedersen said, speaking at Friday’s pre-match press conference. “We’ll see tomorrow morning how the knee is and then we will make a decision.
“He has some problem with his meniscus, and we are waiting for the last result for see how we can do it through the last games.”
Pedersen continued: “We hope that he can still be part of the final games, but we are also waiting to see if he needs surgery or not in the season or shortly after the season. We will see tomorrow how it is, and then I think we will make the next step in the coming days.
