'Very, very strong' - Sheffield Wednesday boss highlights strengths that have been on show so far this season
Sheffield Wednesday moved to within two points of the League One summit after beating AFC Wimbledon 5-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Manager Henrik Pedersen believes Sheffield Wednesday’s encouraging start to the campaign has highlighted the culture and togetherness that have been fostered inside the dressing room.
Wednesday extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to nine matches on Saturday afternoon with an emphatic 5-0 win over AFC Wimbledon at Hillsborough. The Owls got the job done via goals from Davis Keillor-Dunn (2), Barry Bannan, Harry Gray and Callum Slattery.
Following a run of three successive draws in the league, Wednesday were under some pressure to deliver a strong performance and result, and they did exactly that, climbing back into the play-off places and moving to within two points of the League One summit in style.
Although Wednesday’s recent performances had not been entirely convincing prior to the win over Wimbledon, suffering just one defeat in their opening nine league matches represents a strong start to the season, particularly considering the extent of the changes made at Hillsborough over the summer. The Owls have lost just two of their opening 13 matches in all competitions, winning eight.

Having made a solid start to the campaign in terms of results, Pedersen believes the team’s performances have highlighted the positive culture within the club, praising the togetherness that has been created within the squad.
Pedersen told The Star: “I think we have shown that we have a strong culture and good characters in the group. We have a very, very strong culture. Today, again, we saw an amazing hunger from the boys to get themselves out on the pitch, be together, perform together, and do all that they can.
“So the culture in our group is very, very strong. Defensively we are very, very solid, and today again we finally saw some very quick transitions.
“We also saw this verticality in the beginning of the season and what we had in the second half at Huddersfield, that it was repeated today, so it was a good win.”
