EFL Trophy fixture schedule confirmed as Sheffield Wednesday set to visit new ground

Sheffield Wednesday’s EFL Trophy schedule has been confirmed.

Sheffield Wednesday will get their EFL Trophy campaign up and running against Salford City at the AIG Stadium next month, it has been confirmed.

The group-stage draw for this season’s competition was finalised on fixture release day at the end of June, with the Owls placed in Group A of the Northern section, alongside Salford, Accrington Stanley and Sunderland Under-21s.

The Owls’ schedule has now been finalised, confirming their first-ever meeting with Salford will take place at the Ammies’ AIG Stadium. The contest has been scheduled for a 7pm kick-off on Tuesday, September 22, and falls between a home clash with Stockport County and a trip to Stevenage in League One.

Each team will play three group-stage matches, with two at home and one away. Wednesday began their last EFL Trophy campaign on the road, losing 3-1 to Bradford City in August 2022.

After facing Salford towards the end of September, Wednesday will welcome Sunderland’s U21s to Hillsborough on Tuesday, October 6. The Owls have faced Newcastle United U21s and Leicester City U21s in their previous two EFL Trophy campaigns, winning both matches without conceding a goal.

Wednesday will conclude their group-stage campaign against Accrington at Hillsborough on Tuesday, November 10, kick-off 7pm. The two sides played out a goalless draw in a pre-season friendly at the Wham Stadium at the weekend.

The club has confirmed that ticket details for all three fixtures will be announced in due course.

Wednesday exited the competition at the group stage in 2022/23 after losing two of their three matches. The campaign prior, they reached the first knockout round before being beaten 3-0 by Hartlepool United at Hillsborough.
