Barry Bannan makes away form point and praises 'talented' Sheffield Wednesday teammate
Sheffield Wednesday have won each of their first three League One away games this season.
Midfielder Barry Bannan believes Sheffield Wednesday’s home form will take care of itself this season if they continue to pick up points on the road.
The Scot made the admission after the Owls maintained their 100 per cent record on their travels this season with a determined 2-1 victory over Peterborough United at the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Defender Yan Valery scored the winner 11 minutes from time for the Owls, helping them win their opening three away games of a league campaign for the first time in 23 years. Wednesday had previously beaten Leyton Orient (2-1) and Wycombe Wanderers (2-1) on the road this term.
Following two away games in five days, Wednesday can now look forward to back-to-back home games against Wigan Athletic and Stockport County, respectively. Henrik Pedersen’s side have won one and lost one of their first two home league games this season, losing 1-0 to Bradford City before thrashing Bromley 7-2 in their last S6 outing.
With Wednesday having won nine points from a possible nine on their travels thus far, Bannan hailed the Owls’ grit and determination to get the job done on the road and admitted that the next challenge for him and his teammates is to try to make Hillsborough a regular source of points.
“Of course, the away form is important because we know that, even though we've lost at home already this season, our home form will look after itself if we are where we want to be,” Bannan told BBC Radio Sheffield. “So it's important that you can pick up points away and try and capitalise when you get back home in front of the home crowd.
“But I think the important part is when you come away to places like this, that you show the other side of the game. You show a hunger, and I think we showed that in abundance today.
“Bodies on the line and a hunger to win the game at any cost.”

Wednesday were forced to dig deep against Peterborough to secure maximum points, finding a route to three points when Valery nodded home Liverpool loanee Kieran Morrison’s corner. The latter played a key role in helping the Owls secure a third win in a week, and Bannan was only too happy to applaud his efforts.
Bannan added: “Kieran has obviously come from Liverpool. He’s a talent, and you could see today that he was cramping up towards the end, but he’s still going and still fighting for the club, which is amazing, really.
“The boy’s on loan, he’s a young kid starting out, but he’s going through the pain barrier for the club to try and get the three points. It’s amazing because, as I said, there are a lot of new signings, but they’ve bought into the culture of the club really quickly, and I think that’s reflecting on the pitch.”
