Only title-chasing Bournemouth have scored more than Tony Mowbray’s side in the Championship this season. The Lancashire side have belted 34 of them, more than three times that of Sheffield Wednesday (11), and have the Owls in their sights this afternoon at Ewood Park.

Tony Pulis’ side hope to have turned a corner after their 1-0 win over Coventry City last weekend, though, and will be out to collect their first win at Blackburn since 2016.

“They’re a good side,” Pulis said. “Tony has been a very fortunate manager to have four or five years there, there aren’t many of us nowadays that get that time to put things in place!

“He’s a good manager and a very good man away from football. I always enjoy his company. He comes over as pretty dour, but he has a good sense of humour and he understands the game as a football man. I’m looking forward to seeing him.

“They’ve been scoring goals for fun and they’ve got some very good players. Tony has put together a very, very strong side and a team that if they get a little bit of good fortune, they could be in the top six.”

One player in particular that the Owls will have to keep a close eye on is the England youth international and Liverpool-owned starlet Harvey Elliott, who has bagged four goals and five assists for Rovers so far.

The 17-year-old attacking midfielder is highly thought of at his parent club, an opinion shared by former Anfield winger Stewart Downing.

“We have to be careful with him because he’s still very young, but he’s almost the go-to man for us at the moment, he’s playing well and getting goals,” Downing told Blackburn’s official website.

“The manager’s probably trying to see whether he can rest him at some stage, but you have to play him at the minute.

“He’ll have ups and downs in his career, but he has that quality through a goal or an assist.”

Wednesday could have their own problems in the form of a mounting injury list. Julian Börner will miss out with a head injury while key quartet Massimo Luongo, Barry Bannan, Kadeem Harris and Josh Windass could also miss out.
