Exclusive:Sheffield Wednesday reject Millwall bid for Portsmouth-fancied midfielder with other deal set to complete
Sheffield Wednesday have knocked back a second Championship bid for senior figure Svante Ingelsson, The Star understands.
The January transfer window has been one to navigate for the Owls so far, with the additions of loanees Murphy Cooper and Jaden Heskey, with youngster Yisa Alao having completed a six-figure switch to Premier League giants Chelsea and with skipper Barry Bannan set to be unveiled as a Millwall player in the next 48 hours.
Further players are known to be of interest to clubs elsewhere as Wednesday’s administrators set about exploring the raising of funds to safeguard against the potential costs of the ongoing takeover stalling and the administration process therefore having to be extended. On that basis, fair price sales are to be considered.
The Star understands a second bid for Owls midfielder Ingelsson has been knocked back by the Owls. It is understood Millwall, who are poised to complete the signing of Bannan and are also believed to hold interest in Bailey Cadamarteri, launched a quickly rejected bid of somewhere in the region of £300k for the Swede, who is effectively under contract at Hillsborough until the summer of 2027 thanks to a year’s club extension option on his deal.

The understanding is that the transfer offer was launched on Tuesday and was swiftly rejected by the Owls, who value the 27-year-old at a much higher figure. The Lions approach is believed to follow a similar opening bid level received from Portsmouth, who submitted their own transfer offer for Ingelsson last week. The Star also has reason to believe Derby County to be among the Swede’s admirers.
It is understood to be likely that Ingelsson remains of interest to a number of clubs and that further offers are to be expected before the window is out - though as things stand a stronger bid is required for the Owls to accept.
Speaking over the weekend, Owls boss Henrik Pedersen said on the Pompey approach: “We received an offer but the answer was no because the offer was not good enough compared to the quality of Svante... of course there is a lot of speaking right now about many of our players, but I hope we can keep as many as possible.”
Ingelsson has proven an important figure to Wednesday since his signing on a free transfer from German side Hansa Rostock in 2023. The versatile midfielder has played 66 times for the Owls across his two seasons, scoring twice and claiming five assists, and has been a central figure in Wednesday’s struggle this time out.
