Recent Sheffield Wednesday man set for transfer switch amid World Cup dream
Recently departed Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Ethan Horvath is closing on his next move, according to widespread reports.
The USA international arrived to S6 on loan terms after the club were granted permission by the EFL in the wake of Pierce Charles’ first injury of the campaign. Horvath arrived from League One Cardiff City, where he had tumbled down the pecking order to third or fourth choice and stepped up to make 16 appearances for the Owls.
The return to fitness of Charles saw Horvath leave the Wednesday reckoning and his last outing for the club came in November. Having taken to the bench in the new year’s day defeat at Preston North End, his exit from Hillsborough was confirmed as the terms of his loan switch came to an end and he returned to Cardiff.
Now, reports have claimed the 10-cap full international has made his way back Stateside and will sign for New York Red Bulls. Football Insider claim Horvath has reached the stage of advanced talks with the Red Bull club and is set to put the final touches on a switch he hopes will throw him further up the reckoning for a USMNT place at the forthcoming World Cup.
After Charles sustained a second and separate shoulder injury, Wednesday acted fast to bring in Murphy Cooper from Queens Park Rangers. The 24-year-old has made three Owls appearances so far and made the Championship team of the week for his efforts in a 2-0 defeat at Bristol City over the weekend.
