Sheffield Wednesday injury question answered as Owls aim for clean bill of health for new manager

The Owls don’t feel they have a deeper issue when it comes to their injury record this season.
All teams have them, especially with sides playing 50 to 60 games across a campaign, but Sheffield Wednesday have suffered more than most so far this term, or so it feels that way anyway.
The biggest concern has been in defence, with the likes of Ricardo Santos, Di’Shon Bernard, Liam Cooper, Max Lowe, Sil Swinkels and Ernie Weaver having all been in the treatment room. Further forward, Billy Mitchell and Barry Bannan have had their minutes managed due to knocks and niggles.
Summer signing Tyler Onyango is likely to be out for the whole season. Jordi Liongola has not been available since the opening day. Louie Barry - who could be back later in November - has been out for three months, although his problem came about after an unfortunate twist of the ankle on astroturf at Wycombe Wanderers.
Bernard and Santos have both returned from long-term injuries before then having to sit out for a short period, while Lowe, Swinkels and Liongola have all suffered hamstring problems. With Wednesday not having lots of depth in their squad, they need to start keeping players fit.
When asked about the number of injuries, Owls interim boss Matt Hamshaw said: “I think we've carried probably five or six more than we'd like. But what can you do? A lot of them are just contact injuries. You look at Louie Barry, he's gone over off pitch at Wycombe. What can you do about that? It’s not been like it's been overloading. These things can happen. It's a contact sport, and injuries unfortunately happen. It just feels like we've got them all in one area, which is quite tough at the minute. It's dead weird. It seems to all come in one position, doesn't it? So fingers crossed.”
Thankfully, whoever Wednesday’s manager is, he should have the majority of players back from injury after the next international break in the middle of November, with a number of them possibly back in contention for Sunday’s home home match against Blackpool (2pm).
