Liam Cooper and Callum Slattery absences explained in Sheffield Wednesday injury latest
Sheffield Wednesday welcome Bromley to Hillsborough this weekend.
Sheffield Wednesday are set to have two key players fit and available for this weekend’s visit of Bromley after their mutual absence from the Owls’ midweek Carabao Cup tie with Wolves.
Henrik Pedersen will host a press conference at Middlewood Road on Friday when the conditions of Harry Gray and Sil Swinkels will be made better known after loanee Gray was substituted with a suspected broken nose and Swinkels brought off with a hamstring concern. Gray was substituted through concussion protocol having fallen awkwardly in a late collision but was not immediately suspected to have suffered a head injury - though further tests will have been undertaken.
Up for contention will be Liam Cooper and Callum Slattery, who both sat out of the matchday squad for the Wolves defeat. Cooper played 69 minutes of their battle with Bradford City last Thursday and is understood to have been managing some bumps and bruises over the weekend, while Slattery was rested purely down to the work rate he has shown in the early weeks of his Wednesday career.
“Liam, he has trained today, so he's fully fit,” Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen told The Star on Tuesday. “And Slatt also trained today, but Slatt has run so many kilometres in the first games. I thought it was one game where we also could save him from running another 13 kilometres so he can stay fresh.”
New boy right-sider Jordi Liongola faces a number of weeks out through a hamstring injury, though Pedersen made clear it was not an absence expected to stretch into months. Di’Shon Bernard has made strides in his recovery from a long-term lay-off but is not expected to feature in the immediate future, as is the case with George Brown. Tyler Onyango could be out for the remainder of the season.
