Exclusive:Sheffield Wednesday could receive defensive boost with Dominic Iorfa amid injury crisis

In the midst of a defensive crisis, Sheffield Wednesday could be on the brink of welcoming back one of their senior players in Dominic Iorfa.

Iorfa was practically ever-present for the Owls throughout the first half of the season, but he picked up an injury in January that has seen him miss the last eight Championship fixtures as he recovered.

Wednesday lost Liam Cooper to a groin problem on Sunday and have Gabriel Otegbayo suspended for the trip to Norwich City later tonight, but there have been suggestions that Iorfa could be being considered for a return to action at Carrow Road.

Sheffield Wednesday could have defensive reinforcements this week

There may also be an opportunity for Mackenzie Maltby after he recently made his comeback in the U21s. The 21-year-old academy graduate has never made a league matchday squad for the Owls before.

On top of Cooper and Otegbayo’s absence, Henrik Pedersen will also be without Di’Shon Bernard, Max Lowe, Ernie Weaver and Gui Siqueira, meaning that the likes of Cole McGhee, Joe Emery and Reece Johnson could feature in Norwich. It’s thought that Tayo Adaramola has been able to shake off the niggle that forced him off against Sheffield United in the Steel City derby.

Wednesday take on Norwich on 7:45pm this evening, with Pedersen hoping to see his side bounce back from their 2-1 loss to the Blades by taking a step closer to climbing out of the minus points. They face a Canaries side that have won seven of their last nine games across all competitions.
