The Owls begin life in the third tier in early August as Darren Moore’s first full season at the club gets underway, and now it’s been confirmed that they will also find out their first opponents in the Carabao Cup and Papa John’s Trophy on the same day.

Wednesday were knocked out of the EFL Cup in the Third Round last year by Premier League opponents, Fulham, and haven’t played in the EFL Trophy since a First Round exit against Bradford City in their 2011/12 League One Promotion season.

They went on to say, “The Carabao Cup Round One draw will take place live on Sky Sports at 3:40pm on Thursday 24 June… The Round One draw will see teams drawn in Northern and Southern sections, with matches scheduled to take place week commencing 9 August. Clubs are able to mutually agree an alternative date between 31 July and 4 August.

Sheffield Wednesday will find out their fixtures on June 24th.

“The Papa John’s Trophy Round One draw will take place live on Sky Sports at 4:30pm on Thursday 24 June.

“The 16 Invited U21 teams will be placed into their respective Northern and Southern section Groups, with the 48 EFL Clubs placed into pre-determined Groups prior to the draw. Consideration has been given to ensure travel time is minimised and recovery time is maximised for players.”

Wednesday will return to Hillsborough for preseason testing on Friday before heading out to Wales to begin a training camp that will culminate in a friendly against Celtic on July 7th.
