Returning Sheffield Wednesday man Nathaniel Chalobah pays tribute to 'legends' amongst the Owls fanbase
Sheffield Wednesday midfielder, Nathaniel Chalobah, has paid tribute to the ‘legends’ in the Owls fanbase.
Despite the club’s ongoing troubles, Wednesdayites sang loud and proud at Hillsborough over the weekend as their side were down by Southampton, with the visitors clinching a 3-1 victory that saw them end the weekend in seventh place in the Championship.
The defeat saw Wednesday’s winless run stretch to 30 games across all competitions, and made sure they remained on -7 points at the bottom of the table. One plus point in the game, though, was the return to action of experienced midfield man, Chalobah, as he made his first start since back in August, completing the first 45 minutes before a planned change saw him replaced by Jarvis Thornton.
Nathaniel Chalobah’s Sheffield Wednesday fan message
Chalobah, who turned 31 in December, took to social media after the game to send a message to the Owls supporters, thanking them on Instagram for their continued support in a difficult time.
“So happy to be back on the pitch,” he said. “To all the Owls that support us regardless of the situation, you’re all legends. From start to finish. Thank you.”
Wednesday are already relegated as they head into the final 11 games of the season, but Henrik Pedersen has spoken of his desire to see his side make steps to climb out of minus points before the campaign comes to an end. No team has ever finished a season in the English Football League with fewer than zero points.
It remains to be seen whether Chalobah will be handed another start this coming Saturday when Wednesday make the trip over the Pride Park, but he’ll no doubt be itching to get out onto the field once again to try and show fans what they’ve been missing all season.
