Another Sheffield Wednesday player called up to international duty - will miss loan club outings
Sheffield Wednesday have another international call-up.
Out-on-loan striker Devlan Moses has become the latest Sheffield Wednesday player to have been handed an international call-up and will join up with Northern Ireland’s under-21 side for three European Championship qualifiers.
The Huddersfield-born forward has three caps and a goal at the level for his country and looks set to add to those as he makes the trip to Malta before home clashes with Georgia and Greece in what is an extended international break. Moses is out on loan with National League North side Buxton FC and will have to miss commitments there - as will Wales youth cap Logan Stretch who is also on loan with the club.
Wednesday’s cohort of young players out on loan have and will undertake days at Middlewood Road throughout the season and the pair’s switch to Buxton sees them join-up with former Owls academy coach Jordan Broadbent. Moses scored from the spot in their FA Cup win over Ashton United over the weekend, a goal that put them into the third qualifying round.
Broadbent told Buxton’s in-house media: “We had a decision to make at half-time; we had to take one of the attacking players off just to give us a better foundation to probably sustain their attacks and play a little bit more in transition.
“The thought process was really simple: you don't take a goalscorer off the pitch. One thing Dev's proven over his short career and his youth team days when I've worked with him is that he's got loads of goals in him. I think his second half performance is definitely his best performance in a Buxton shirt so far.”
Wednesday’s wider international contribution saw senior figures Yan Valery (Tunisia), Ali Al-Hamadi (Iraq), Kieran Morrison (Northern Ireland) and Harry Gray (England u19s) depart for duty, with youngsters Sean Fusire (Zimbabwe) and Will Grainger (Wales u19s) also called up. The Owls’ next two League One fixtures, at Stevenage and at home to Cambridge United, were subsequently postponed.
