The Owls lost out in the battle to sign Jonathan Leko from West Brom as he plumped for Birmingham City and while The Star understands that Josh Windass is looking increasingly likely to complete his signing from Wigan ahead of Saturday’s trip to Walsall, it may well be that he alone is not enough.

While battling the Foxes Jordan Rhodes looked a little off the pace and was replaced by rookie teenager Charles Hagan, who blitzed around with enthusiasm but is unlikely to be trusted with a senior role this season.

Speaking after the Leicester draw, the Owls boss said: “It's been brilliant with a lot of hard work, plenty of sessions in the day and we mixed it away from here with team spirit and team building activities and finished with a game. In terms of what we wanted from the week we definitely got that.

“There's a lot of improvement to go in certain areas to help the group we have which we are trying to work on but overall we are very pleased.”

It’s an opinion shared by one of his key men, Kadeem Harris, who speaking to The Star last week admitted that while he has huge faith in Rhodes’ ability to get the goals flowing, the squad require more depth in a number of areas including up top.

“It's very important, there's a long season ahead and so a big squad is needed and the right characters are needed,” he said.

“The additions that have been brought in are definitely the right sort of people, they've settled in well and they are the right sort of players, hungry players that want to impress. That's the most important thing, to get that hunger in the squad.”
