There was a start for Izzy Brown and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru came on at the break for their first appearances since joining in the summer but there was one thing that stood out for Owls fans from this match at least: where are the goals going to come from?

Jordan Rhodes started up front and played an hour but didn’t do a great deal, with Adam Reach and Brown kicking off the game in behind him.

It’s hard to put too much emphasis on one pre-season match but the Owls did look pretty toothless, apart from at set-pieces.

And fans all picked up on the point that a striker is desperately needed before the transfer window closes in October.

@joeyy_stack1727 posted: “Very impressed with that, highlights the need for strikers though.”

@TvSwfc said: “It is what it is just a workout for both sides. Good bits and bad bits but what is clear as mud is we need strikers. I just wish we wouldn't take so long to sign them need at least 2-3 let's crack on now wednesday.”

@MattSummerhill added: “You can never assess too much from pre-season friendlies, but want thing was glaringly obvious. If we don't sign some players who can put the ball in the back of the net, we will be on minus for a long time.”

And @mattbaines75 agreed, posting: “Not looking too deep into that performance, but it’s obvious what we need an TWO of em”

There was a little bit more depth from @shane1191, with this fair summary: “Decent performance against Leicester, FDB looked very good covers a lot of ground, Brown very good too but my god we need strikers in urgently as Reach and rhodes up top was painful to watch! Good to see lots of academy lads get game time too good signs all in all!”

While @Wisbey82 also offered priase for Joost Van Aken who did actually look pretty solid in the first half. Of course, there was still the caveat that strikers are needed: “My eyes may deceive me but van aken odubajo and penney made a good impression fizz and hunt looked good but not yet first team Hagan did more than Rhodes Pelupessy didn't offer much brown looks a good outlet like the look of the 3.5.2 system we need 2 strikers good signs.”

@OwlSheffield added: “Training game friendly. Really glad fans didn’t have to pay to watch it. Pacey Striker and bring maybe 2 other forwards in is Urgent.”

And @owls_4life was also pretty fair in this assesment: “Good workout & promising signs, Brown esp. Usual suspects for the odd mistake & disappointing we didn't put anything on target whilst having possibly the two or three clearest chances. Basically played 2nd half with u23 team.Needless to say what we all know we need asap.”

The message from Owls fans is pretty clear. All available strikers please report to Hillsborough ASAP.
