Thompson has quite the story… For those that don’t know, he spent a large part of his childhood in a wheelchair due to Perthes Disease, but managed to overcome many obstacles as he sought a career as a footballer.
All of his hard work was rewarded a year ago when he was handed his first professional contract at Wednesday, and then back in January he took the next step on his remarkable road as he made his senior debut in the FA Cup win over Exeter City.

Hide AdThe 19-year-old full back, who spent time with Stocksbridge Park Steels before returning to Wednesday in 2018, was due to see his current Owls deal expire at the end of the 2020/21 campaign, however that is no longer the case.
The Star understands that Wednesday have exercised a one-year option that was in place for the teenage defender, meaning that he is now contracted until July 2022 as he looks to push on at Middlewood Road.
Thompson is one of a number of U23 players that the club are eager to keep around for next season, however unlike the likes of Charles Hagan and Lewis Farmer, his option means that his immediate Owls future is settled rather than him just being offered a deal at this stage.
Having played a number of games for the U23s under Lee Bullen this season, Wednesday’s youth setup are well aware what Thompson is capable of, and he’ll definitely be looking to impress Darren Moore over preseason if given the opportunity.
