Recent Sheffield Wednesday camp member snapped in colours of League One club who Owls play soon

A recent face in Sheffield Wednesday training appears to be training with a third tier rival.

A Sheffield Wednesday promotion-winner could be in the frame to line-up against the Owls sooner rather than later - if photos leaked on social media are anything to go by.

The Owls have taken a look at a number of players in the last weeks as their rebuild continues, with Tyler Onyango ultimately earning himself a contract with the club having left Everton over the summer. Consideration was given to the additions of Nathaniel Chalobah and Wanya Marcal. Chalobah has since signed for Charlton Athletic while Marcal has passed through trials with Peterborough United and Cambridge United.

Another player who spent time training with Wednesday is long-time former Wednesday goalkeeper Cameron Dawson, who travelled with the Owls to their training camp in Europe and played in their behind-closed-doors friendly against Stoke City last month.

Dawson, 31, played 129 times in competitive football for his boyhood club between 2013 and 2024, leaving a year after playing a starring role in the League One play-off final that secured Wednesday’s promotion back to the Championship in 2023.

Now, it appears Dawson is training elsewhere, with photographs posted to social media apparently showing him training at Bradford City’s Woodhouse Grove training base. The Bantams are reportedly in the process of selling stopper Sam Walker to Watford and have only new addition Jon McCracken - not long ago tentatively linked with Wednesday - as a senior keeper.

Bradford will make the trip down to Hillsborough on August 20 for a controversially re-arranged second clash of the league campaign. With speculation suggesting Walker’s move back to London could accelerate in the coming days, it remains to be seen whether Dawson will be signed on to the Valley Parade club following his release by Rotherham United earlier this summer.

One of Dawson’s former Owls teammates Reece James has been training with the club and a decision over whether or not he is signed to provide cover in defence has not yet been made.
