The 29-year-old was surprisingly let go at the end of last season, his contract expiring at the end of June and Wednesday opting against offering him a new contract, however it was confirmed that he would go through preseason with the Owls until he was eventually signed off from his injury.
Heneghan sustained a serious injury whilst facing Lincoln City last season, an issue that required surgery and ruled him out for the rest of the season, with the Owls having a duty of care to make sure that he returns to full fitness before he moves on.

New boss, Xisco Munoz, wouldn’t be pressed into whether that was an option, though, simply saying that they’re still in the analysis phase of recruitment as things stand.
"Right now, it is important to think about everything and all the players and how we can manage the situation. We want what’s best for them... We need to be calm, analyse everything and after we will then make decisions. The most important thing is to get the best out of the players.”
It remains to be seen whether Munoz will consider a new deal for Heneghan when he does return to full witness, but with a distinct lack of natural central defenders he may be tempted to have the conversation.
