The Owls ran out as 2-0 winners at Hillsborough on Wednesday, with Dennis Adeniran and Sylla Sow getting the goals in a comfortable win over their Championship opponents.

Moore made eight changes in total from the side that started against MK Dons, but Wednesday never looked in too much trouble as they went on to secure their spot in the third round of the competition.

Speaking after the game, the Owls boss told the media, “We rang the changes and to see the boys come in and perform like that against good opposition was excellent. We know Sunderland's philosophy in terms of how they go about it.

“I thought the boys got stronger as the game wore on and I thought we started to dominate the game in and out of possession.

“I knew it was going to be a good workout. We knew to get the right result tonight we had to go about our business in the right manner.”

“It was great to see the players step up and work together so well. I thought as the game wore on we started to grow more and more into the game.

Meanwhile, when asked about Adeniran’s star turn at Hillsborough, Moore said, “We are really pleased for him to score a goal and take it in that fashion. It was an excellent finish and he showed real quick thinking to put the ball in for Sylla's second goal.

“Dennis has got good feet on the ball and he moves really well. You can see the different dynamics that he brings the team in terms of his ability in midfield and we wanted that this season.

“It is great to see him back. He will have taken a lot of plaudits for his performance tonight and he himself will take a lot from the game.”

Wednesday’s next game will see them face Charlton Athletic this Saturday as they look to extend their 11-game unbeaten run on home turf at S6.
