'Wouldn't be a bad outcome' - pundit on what Sheffield Wednesday can aim for next season

Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has been talking about Sheffield Wednesday’s hopes for next season

Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has opened up on what he thinks is a realistic aim for Sheffield Wednesday next season.

Points deductions all but sealed Wednesday's fate this term, meaning relegation from the Championship was always virtually guaranteed.

But the end of the 2025/26 season will not mean the end of points deductions, with the Owls also starting next term with a 15-point deficit. With that in mind, Goodman believes the club has to be realistic about what can be achieved during the 2026/27 campaign.

Goodman urges Wednesday caution

Goodman, speaking to TheStar.co.uk via https://bettingzondercruks.com/ said: "It's complicated because they will start next season with a 15-point deduction now. That is a fact.

"I mean, look, whoever goes down with them is going to be stronger than them for a start. If it's Leicester, you would think that Leicester would be able to find a way of getting a group of players together to really, well, win League One. Yeah, it won't be easy for Sheffield Wednesday.

"If you cast your mind back to the Derby County situation, which is only a few years ago, they went into administration, got relegated from the Championship into League One, had to try and consolidate the first season before they got promoted in the second season. And I can see something similar to that for Sheffield Wednesday.

"That wouldn't be a bad outcome at all. They've got a football club. When it looked in January, it looked as if they might not have a football club."
