But according to the Telegraph report – which puts the accepted bid at £1m – the Owls face stiff competition from both Birmingham City and Premier League Brighton and Hove Albion for the youngster’s signature.

Leko, 21, can play either on the wing or as a striker and has a raft of international caps at England youth level. He has made a name for himself at club level in recent seasons out on loan at Bristol City and Charlton Athletic, where he scored five times in 21 matches last season.

Subsequent reports in the Birmingham Mail suggest, as it stands, Leko would prefer a move to St Andrews.

Much has been made of the transition Garry Monk wants to make at Sheffield Wednesday, Leko, who has been at West Brom since he was 11 years old, fits the ‘young, hungry, dynamic’ ideal Monk has spoken about.

Speaking to The Star last month, Monk said of the transition: “It’s what the club need, it’s what we all need and hopefully we can get the right targets to help the ones that are already here and we can do something more consistent and better than what we’ve shown in this second half of the season.”

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Chey Dunkley have been added to the side permanently this summer, with Izzy Brown following on loan from Chelsea.
