It will be the Owls first visit to the Bescot Stadium since a Boxing Day 2011 trip that was memorable for all the wrong reasons; injury time goals for Saddlers pair Claude Gnapka and Manny Smith cancelling out Ryan Lowe’s second half opener.
But what became of the players that played that day? Take a look at the run-through below..
1. Richard O'Donnell
The Wednesday youth product played only 15 times in league matches at his home club, heading out on loan to a plethora of clubs before making the switch to Chesterfield in 2012. He moved on to become number one at Walsall, ironically, before spells at Wigan, Bristol City, Rotherham and Northampton before finding himself something of a home at current club Bradford City, where he is a fan favourite. 2. James Tavernier
Yorkshire-born Tavernier played only a handful of times for the Owls during his loan spell from Newcastle. It was one of many loans from the North East club leading up to a 2014 move to Wigan, where he fell a little flat before moving on loan to Bristol City and then to a permanent move to Glasgow Rangers. Now club captain at Ibrox, he has become a constant in Steven Gerrard's side. Photo: Pool
3. Danny Batth
Enjoying promotion and this iconic photo in his second loan spell at Wednesday, dependable defender Batth played over 200 times for Wolverhampton Wanderers before he was deemed surplus to requirements at Molineux when they made their successful return to the Premier League. Initially loaned out to Middlesbrough, he has since made the permanent move to Stoke where he has settled in nicely and will this season play alongside Morgan Fox and Steven Fletcher. 4. Rob Jones
Club captain at Wednesday that season, Jones found himself marginalised after Dave Jones replaced Gary Megson in the Hillsborough hotseat and quickly moved on to Doncaster Rovers, where he became something of a club icon. A spell as co-caretaker manager saw Rovers promoted. He officially retired in 2017 after a short spell at Hartlepool and is on the lookout for a full-time coaching role having applied for the manager's job at Barrow this summer. Photo: Matthew Lewis
