The Owls boss is currently dealing with the pneumonia and blood clots brought on by his bout of COVID-19, and was taken to hospital last week not long after his return to the sidelines against Swansea City.

Now though, it appears that he is on the mend, and he’ll no doubt have been buoyed by the fact that his side were able to pick up a hard-fought win over Blackburn Rovers this week.

Jamie Smith who has been called upon to take his place in terms of on the touchline and in terms of media duties, says that Moore is improving and back home after his spell in hospital.

Speaking to The Star after the 1-0 win over Blackburn, Smith said, “He’s a lot better today… I spoke him before the game, and he watched it. He was in contact tonight, which was pleasing, and nice for us. So yeah, he’s a lot better.

“Potentially, but it’s a little bit too early to say. We’re still not out of the woods kind of thing, but he’s a lot better and improving.”

The victory meant that the Owls closed the gap on Derby County – who they play on the last day – to just four points, but they’re by no means out of the firing line just yet, and Smith admits that they need to try and finish with a perfect record.

He added, “Look, we have to win the next three games. It’s as simple as that, and we’ll be doing everything that we can to do that. We can’t worry about what other people are doing, we have to concentrate on ourselves.”

Wednesday have now finished all their midweek games, giving them a bit more time to recover between matches, but face tough tests against Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest ahead of what could be a relegation-deciding clash against Derby on the final day.

It remains to be seen whether Moore will be back for any of them, but it does appear that there’s some hope he could return before the season is out.
