Kieran Lee, Lloyd Isgrove and Elias Kachunga are among the growing number of players to have played for both clubs – with Barry Bannan likely to feature on the blue and white side – but who makes the line-up in our team made up of men to have done just that?
There’s a classy midfield, a brutal strike force and a top manager to contend with. Take a look.
9. CM - John Sheridan
One of the finest passers of a ball ever to grace the Hillsborough pitch, Rumbelows Cup hero John Sheridan made nearly 250 appearances over seven years with Wednesday when they were at their very best, before moving on first on loan and then permanently to Bolton in 1996. Photo: Mark Thompson
10. LM - Barry Bannan
Bannan played plenty of football early doors in his Wednesday career out wide and he's there again in what looks like a classy midfield. Club captain and a man of well over 250 Owls appearances, he enjoyed a brief loan spell at Bolton before making the move from Crystal Palace to Wednesday in 2015. Photo: Stu Forster
11. CF - Paul Warhurst
A chisel-jawed hard worker, Paul Warhurst played at centre-forward for Wednesday in the 1993 League Cup final and at centre-half in the same year's FA Cup final. Perhaps a victim of his own versatility, he enjoyed to seasons for the Owls before stints at Blackburn, Crystal Palace and then Bolton before a journey down the leagues. Photo: Mark Thompson
12. CF - Gary Madine
Another forward who would take no backward step, Gary Madine arrived at Hillsborough from Carlisle in 2011 and played over 100 league matches for Wednesday, scoring 26 times. He was sold to Bolton in 2015 and scored 24 in 96 in the league, earning himself a switch to Cardiff. Now at Blackpool. Photo: Michael Steele
