More Sheffield Wednesday progress as goalkeeper agrees Owls deal

The club confirmed last month that Render, 20, had been offered a new deal to remain at Hillsborough beyond the 2020/21 campaign, with the young stopper expected to form part of Darren Moore’s goalkeeper setup as things stand.

Wednesday have Cameron Dawson and Joe Wildsmith as their two experienced keepers right now, with Render and fellow youngster, Luke Jackson, behind them in the pecking order as they continue to learn their trade.

The Star reported earlier this week that attacker, Charles Hagan had agreed a deal in principle to remain with the Owls for another year, while Josh Dawodu’s agent has previously stated that the defender is keen to stick around and work under Moore next season.

Now, with a preseason trip to Wales just around the corner, The Star understands that Render is also committed to staying at Hillsborough to be part of things next season, and while he’s not put pen to paper just yet, the young stopper is set to do so in the near future.

The youngster is likely to split his time between the first team and Lee Bullen’s U23s next season, but his decision to stick around is another bit of good news on the back of what has been a difficult for months for Wednesdayites.

Wednesday return to Middlewood Road today (Friday) and will then head out to Wales for a preseason camp where they’ll face Celtic.
