Exclusive:Midfielder who trained under Danny Röhl offered Sheffield Wednesday deal

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder, Sutura Kakay, has been offered his first professional contract at the club, The Star understands.

Kakay, who has worked his way up the ranks at Middlewood Road in recent years, has been a regular for the U18s this season, as well as turning out at U21 level – even getting to spend time training with Danny Röhl and his senior team on occasions as well.

Now, as reward for his development since signing his scholarship deal two years ago, it’s understood that the 18-year-old has been offered his first professional contract as he prepares to step up to the U21 ranks on a permanent basis.

The combative midfield man is set to join the likes of Ernie Weaver and Joe Emery on the list of those who have done enough to earn pro deals, however nothing has yet been confirmed by the club themselves, with the retained list due out in the next month or so.

Andy Sharp’s U18s recently secured second place in the Professional Development League North table, booking their spot in the championship play-offs, and they’ll now be hoping to finish strongly against Barnsley and Brentford before the knockouts for the overall title begin.

Kakay, who would also qualify to play for Sierra Leone if he so wished, is set to be a big part of Wednesday’s title aspirations, and will be eager to continue showcasing his talents with potentially an eye on playing a part in the first team’s preseason in South Yorkshire.

Wednesday’s U18s are currently on an impressive 11 game unbeaten run - 10 of which have been wins - with the 7-1 hammering of Ipswich Town this week meaning that they’ve scored 17 goals in their last three matches.
