Michael Vaughan leads tributes to former Sheffield Wednesday winger, who has passed away, aged 72
Former Owl Paul Bradshaw sadly passes away
Tributes have been paid to former Sheffield Wednesday winger, Paul Bradshaw, who has died, aged 72.
Mr Bradshaw, who signed for The Owls in September 1976 from Burnley and made 74 appearances in total across two seasons, scoring 11 goals, passed away on Sunday.
“The England youth international flourished at Hillsborough until a serious knee injury sadly forced his retirement from the game at just 25-years-old,” the club said.
“Wednesday hosted a benefit game for the native Sheffielder against Leeds United in 1979, by which time Paul had started a new career as a coach in schools that he maintained for two decades.
“Paul later qualified as a teacher and also returned to football as assistant manager of local side Stocksbridge Park Steels.
“Our thoughts are with Paul’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.”
Tributes, including from former England cricket captain, Michael Vaughan, and Wednesday legend Chris Turner, have started to flood in for Mr Bradshaw.
Vaughan said: “RIP Bradders x Was Great having you as my PE teacher at Silverdale x.”
Turner wrote: “Sad to hear that my friend and former colleague Paul Bradshaw has passed away. Paul, Rodger Wylde and I remained close friends for more than 50 years, and in that time we shared so many great memories and laughs together. Paul, thank you for being such a wonderful friend.”
Fan, Lee South, posted: “One of the early greats of grassroots football. Rest in peace Paul.”
