Dave Challinor watches on as Will Grainger serves Sheffield Wednesday reminder
Sheffield Wednesday’s youngsters won in the FA Youth Cup on Monday evening.
Sheffield Wednesday’s Owlets whipped their Gateshead counterparts with six of the best at Hillsborough on Monday - with an important set of eyes understood to have been watching on.
The result saw the Owls under-18s cruise through the FA Youth Cup first round thanks in part to a stellar showing in a two-goal effort from star man Will Grainger, who will be pushing his case for further involvement in the senior sides in the coming weeks and months.
Wales youth international Grainger was the most experienced of the names put out by new boss Luke Morgan having stepped out a dozen times in senior football for Wednesday. The introduction of a host of talented senior players over the summer has naturally seen his time limited to a single League One outing after he burst onto the scene with a handful of appearances late last season.
The Star understands that incoming Wednesday boss Dave Challinor was present at the match and watched a one-sided affair in which there was also a brace for substitute Charlie Robinson, with further goals added by Harry Chadbourne and Roman Cawley, who is said to have attracted interest from watching Premier League academies in recent months.
Challinor was expected to have been officially unveiled as Wednesday boss on Monday, though that announcement never came. The Star has no reason to believe there are any issues with his addition.
