Since the Australian signed for Wednesday earlier in the season, they’ve now won 11 of the 20 games in which he’s featured - losing just five - but have lost 10 of the 18 that he’s missed and won just two of them. A stark contrast with and without the 27-year-old.

Now, having picked up four points from a possible six since his return to the side, Luongo is pleased with the turnaround that seems to be underway.

Speaking after the game, the midfield man said, “We’ve worked hard over the restart, we’ve worked on a few things just to tweak on things that we probably weren’t doing before the break, and against Forest it showed - we should have got the win there - and today it showed massively.

“The energy levels were high, it’s hard to get up for it when there’s no fans and stuff like that, but as a team we’ve done really well to get motivated and self-motivated and put pressure on each other to keep the standard really high.”

And how was it to be back on the scoresheet again?

“I was so happy,” he said. “I’ve been out for a long time, and haven’t had the best of luck with injuries, so it was nice. My last game was in January, so to get two starts, I’m already so happy with that. Then four points and a goal to top it off is just the icing on the cake I think.”

The Owls have seven games left this season, four of which are against teams currently above them in the table, and Luongo has reiterated that they’re just taking things one game at a time.

He added, “There’s an opportunity for us as a team to exploit the teams above us at the moment. A lot of the teams we’re playing are ahead of us, so if we can take points off them and see how high we can get up on the table then seven games later you never know where we are.”

“We’ll just take it one game at a time though, and worry about the next opposition. I think the mindset is that we have to gel, get better and work on things that will push us for next season, but at the moment it’s one game at a time and you never know what happens.

“Bottom teams are beating top teams, so you just never know after the next seven games where everyone is.”

And speaking of teams above, the Owls face promotion-chasing West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday evening in what will be Garry Monk’s biggest test since the Championship got back underway, a game in which Luongo is likely to start once more.
