The experienced defender was a deadline day signing for the Owls as he was snapped up on loan from Cardiff City, but after starting four games in a row since his arrival, he is now being forced to spend some time on the sidelines.

Flint, 31, had to come off early into Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of Rotherham United last week, giving Garry Monk another defensive headache to think about following a spate of injuries, and it’s now been confirmed that he will need to go under the knife.

Speaking after the 1-0 win over Bournemouth, Monk confirmed Flint’s hamstring injury, saying, “It’s frustrating for everyone as it was so innocuous at the time. But the scan has shown Aden will need an operation… So he will be out for longer than we expected, we are looking at a few weeks minimum.

“I feel for him because he came here to play some football and I was really impressed with his performances and attitude. We all wish him well and hope for a speedy recovery.”

He went on to say, “It’s not going to be a short-term one… I’m not an expert, but I think we’re talking definitely more than a good few weeks at best. He’s going to have an operation with it, and it depends how quickly he recovers after that.”

While Flint will miss the game against Millwall this weekend and almost certainly at least the other three games in November that follow, Wednesday do have a boost defensively given the fact that Tom Lees (who was missing last night as his wife went into labour) and Joost van Aken (who was suspended for the last three games) should be available this weekend.
