Leyton Orient take ticket precaution for Sheffield Wednesday clash
Wednesdayites will face a scramble for away tickets this season
Leyton Orient will be taking precautions over tickets for the visit of Sheffield Wednesday on the opening day of the new season.
The Owls kick-off the 2026/2027 League One campaign at Brisbane Road on Saturday, August 15. They asked for an away fixture on the opening weekend to give them more time to complete work at Hillsborough. That request was made by administrator Begbies Traynor earlier in the year, who anticipated that a new owner might appreciate an extra week to carry out what needs to be done.
With Wednesday only likely to get a ticket allocation between 1,500 and 2,000, thousands of supporters will miss out on attending the match. With that in mind, Orient say they are taking precautions with home tickets.
They said in a statement: “Tickets for Leyton Orient's opening day fixture against Sheffield Wednesday have been placed on restricted sale. With the Owls' away ticket allocation expected to sell out, the decision has been made to only sell home-end tickets to those who were already registered on Orient's ticketing database, by Monday, July 13 2026. This restriction has been put in place to ensure that tickets in the home areas of the stadium are only purchased by Leyton Orient supporters.”
Orient will probably not be the only club to take this action this season, with Wednesdayites set for a scramble for tickets for most away days because of smaller allocations. For many years The Owls have run a loyalty points-based system where supporters who are season ticket holders and who attend away matches are rewarded by having the first opportunity to buy tickets before others.
Orient, managed by Richie Wellens, lost the League One play-off final to Charlton Athletic in 2025 and it appears they suffered a hangover from that defeat at Wembley, finishing just above the relegation zone last season.
