Kieran Lee and Atdhe Nuhiu's Sheffield Wednesday days definitely done? - Maybe not

Nuhiu and Lee both saw their contracts at Hillsborough expire at the end of the 2019/20 season, and though the long-serving duo have been removed from the club’s squad list on the official website, there has not been a statement or anything confirming their departures.

Neither player has been part of Monk’s preseason camp as they weigh up their options elsewhere, and while it has been reported that both would have been open to the idea of remaining in South Yorkshire, for now at least it appears that their fates lie elsewhere.

Speaking to The Star, Monk said, “At the moment, yes… Obviously I have huge respect for those two, they’re great guys and were fantastic to work with, but at this moment in time the transition is to move to a more dynamic and younger squad.

“We still kept good senior players here, but you have to change that dynamic. It amazed me that when I looked back over the last three years, there’s only been one player that has completed 30 games in a season. That’s unbelievable.

“They’re good lads, I enjoyed working with them, but in the Championship you must have a robust group, you have to have a big core of players that reach over 30 games a season. 30, 40, 50 games, they need to be dynamic enough to do that.

“You can see already that that dynamic is changing. It will take a lot more time than this, but we’ve definitely made a good step towards it.”

Nuhiu is currently training with the Kosovan national team as they prepare to return to action this month, while the whereabouts of Lee are unknown at this stage.

Wednesday have bolstered their attacking options with the likes of Elias Kachunga and Josh Windass who have arrived on permanent deals, while Izzy Brown and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru have come into the midfield, however it does appear that they’re not done yet as the club continue to monitor the market.
