Kadeem Harris on a talk with ‘Thommo’, assists targets and THAT penalty shout

The 27-year-old has set up two crucial goals for Jordan Rhodes this month, once in the 2-1 win over Bournemouth and again for the opener in the 2-0 Wycombe Wanderers victory, picking up more in the past week or so than he has all season to date.

But still, only Barry Bannan (5) has gotten more assists for the Owls in all competitions this season, and the pacey attacker will be desperate to get at least the three more that he needs to beat his tally for 2019/20 (5).

But while he’ll be eager to start creating more, he’s not got a number in his head…

“There’s no targets,” he told The Star. “It’s just about continuing to get the ball into the box and get some quality into the box. I’m working on it in training – day in and day out – so hopefully I can continue to do that in games and it can keep getting better.”

And a one-on-one chat with Neil Thompson coupled with a spell on the sidelines seems to have done the trick…

He also told the media, “I was very disappointed to be on the sidelines for those few weeks, but I think any professional footballer is when they are on the bench.

“But I think it has worked. It has helped and I think I needed that little rest and I have come back now and I am raring to go.

“Not that I was not raring to go before. But that little rest has maybe helped me. Going forward now, I can maybe take that on and continue on with my performances to help the team.

“It’ll give anybody a kick up the backside… It’s not that I was going into games comfortable before – I’ve always been hungry and eager to impress – but at times it didn’t happen. Results are going better now though, and I’m getting the ball a lot more than I was.

“When you get the ball more, the more you can throw into a game and the more you can express yourself…”

But while it was all smiles at a snowy Hillsborough on Tuesday night, things could well have gone a different way if the referee had given a penalty to Wycombe and potentially even sent Harris off for a tackle in the box.

He thought it was the right decision though, of course…

“You’ve seen them given,” he said with a smile. “But if it had been given today then I think it’d have been really soft and I’d have been disappointed. Thankfully it wasn’t given.”

Harris and Wednesday were due to go up against Swansea City later this afternoon as they returned to Championship action, however that game was called off due to a frozen Hillsborough pitch being unplayable.

Instead, the ‘Thommo’ is now preparing his troops for a trip to Stoke City on Tuesday as they aim to for a return to winning ways on the road.
