Kadeem Harris discusses Sheffield Wednesday contract and Owls togetherness

He’s one of many players at Sheffield Wednesday who are out of contract at the end of the season, but Kadeem Harris is more focused on keeping Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship.

Harris played a starring role against his former club, Wycombe Wanderers, on Tuesday evening, setting up Jordan Rhodes for the opening goal and proving to be a constant thorn in the side of the visitors.

The 27-year-old performed his attacking and defensive duties perfectly as the Owls secured a big 2-0 victory, a win that helped them climb out of the Championship relegation zone.

But despite the fact that – as things stand – he’ll be a free agent come July, ‘Kadz’ says that his only focus is making sure that Wednesday remain in this division next season – the rest, he says, will follow.

He told The Star after the win at Hillsborough, “There’s been talk about it, but I’m just focusing on staying in the Championship at the moment - nothing else.

“Hopefully we can do that first and foremost, and then we can carry on those talks.”

Alongside Harris, the likes of Barry Bannan, Adam Reach, Tom Lees and several others are in a position where their futures are up in the air, but the results of late and performances shown will make sure that nobody is questioning their commitment to the cause.

With five home wins in a row for the first time since 2011, and the first time in the Championship since relegation from the Premier League, Wednesday look to have become a strong unit.

And Harris thinks that it’s largely to do with Neil Thompson.

“The togetherness was always there,” he said. “But I think it’s there now more than ever. We’re attacking teams now more than we did, we were setting up defensively before, and I don’t think we’re that kind of team. We have quality going forward, but we weren’t really able to show that because of how we were setting up.

“Now we’re bringing it to teams, and that’s what the manager wants from us. He said from day one that he wants us to attack teams, and that if it doesn’t go well then at least we had a go.”
