At just 19-years-old, there needs to be some patience regarding ‘Fizz’. He’s still young and hasn’t got much senior experience in the game. What he does have, however, is pace, power, a solid football foundation from Manchester City and a desire to step up a level.
This is the market the Owls must play in now. Monk has spoken often of ‘young, hungry, dynamic’ players to bolster his ranks at Hillsborough following the one of the biggest S6 exodus’ in a while, and FDB ticks all those boxes and more as he becomes the first permanent signing of the Monk era.

Hide AdAnd in fairness, after plenty of hit and miss business in recent years, the last couple of windows have shown a step in the right direction for SWFC.
In Dominic Iorfa, Kadeem Harris, Massimo Luongo and Julian Börner, Wednesday improved their squad and paid next to nothing in order to do so. With Dele-Bashiru, it’s also unlikely to have been a big fee – if any at all – and there’s plenty of room for growth there. That’s certainly something that bodes well. If it continues, of course.
Sam Hutchinson spoke about things becoming ‘stale’ for him at Hillsborough, and I think that’s a good word to describe where things were at in general to be honest. This summer offers a chance to revitalise things, and signing up a talented teenager from one of the best academies in the country is certainly a decent way to get started.
Wednesday are due back mid-August as they return from their trips around the world following the end of the 2019/20 season, and no doubt Monk will be hoping to get another couple of players – including some with more experience - to sign on the dotted line before preseason begins. The longer he has with his players, the quicker they can settle in.
