Brown, 24, was released by Premier League side, Chelsea, as his contract at Stamford Bridge came to an end this year, but he’s wasted no time in finding himself a new home as he looks to get his career back on track.

It’s been confirmed by the Lilywhites that the midfielder has signed a one-year deal with a one-year option at PNE, and he’ll be desperate to put the 2020/21 season behind him as he focuses on the future.

As quoted on Preston’s official website, Brown said: “I’m over the moon to finally get this done. It’s been in the works for a couple of weeks now, but I’m absolutely delighted to be here… Now I’m getting to that age where I want to develop myself as a player and hopefully be a legend at a club, and I really feel like Preston’s a place where I could do that.”

The former Owls loanee had said at one point that he’d be open to the idea of remaining at Hillsborough on a permanent basis once his Blues deal expires, but he struggled for game time at Hillsborough – especially in the second half of the season – and it became obvious that a move elsewhere would be on the cards instead.

Brown played 21 times for Wednesday across all competitions, however only managed to get a handful of starts.
