The Owls have the second-lowest scoring record in the league having scored only eight goals in their 15 Championship matches and have failed to score more than one goal in a game since a 2-0 opening day win at Cardiff 83 days ago.

They’re stats, then, that have left many Wednesday supporters scratching their heads at the bit-part role of Chelsea-owned loanee Izzy Brown, who last season at Luton was one of the foremost attacking players in the division.

The 23-year-old is yet to start under new boss Tony Pulis.

“It’s difficult at the moment because of time,” Pulis said on the challenges of making a judgement on the likes of Brown having come into the club during an intensely busy period.

“Even training time has been cut down and we’re resting, playing, resting, playing and to make an assessment of some of the players at the moment is very, very difficult.

“He’s probably been unlucky along with three or four of the players that I haven’t given him the opportunity or the chance to show what he can do in games.

“But the ones that have played and that have been part of it have all done OK. It’s a difficult situation at the moment.”

Pulis described the non-stop nature of the condensed fixture schedule, revealing that he and assistant Mike Trusson went straight from their draw with Reading in midweek to begin preparations for this weekend’s trip to Norwich, which may see Brown given a chance to start given the absences of Massimo Luongo, Liam Shaw and possibly Barry Bannan.

“We played the game on Wednesday, and with Mike I went back to the hotel and we turned on the game Norwich played against Coventry,” Pulis said.

“We sat for an hour and a half, I woke up the next morning and watched their game against Luton. Everything has been like that.

“Unfortunately that’s my life at the moment. We play this game and then we’re off again on Tuesday.

“It’s really about just trying to get everything set up for the next game and then the next game and then the next game.”
