Speaking to The Star today, ‘Daws’ spoke of how he’s got Fizz’s number right now, but admitted that he often can’t even get close to Jordan Rhodes’ efforts.

The shot-stopper said, “I’ve got Fizz at the minute, I’ve got him on toast… He doesn’t know what to do, I’ve got him every time. Every time he comes it’s just a guaranteed save at the minute.

“I think I struggle, always struggle, with Jordan Rhodes. There’s a reason he’s scored so many goals, and in finishing drills I’ve never seen anyone just so easily stroke the ball into corners. It’s the most frustrating thing in the world.

So with that in mind, is this the season Rhodes finds his scoring boots in blue and white?

“He’s obviously a top striker at this level and has scored a lot of goals,” Dawson says. “I think all the boys and Rhodesy himself are really hoping and believing that this year could be the year he kicks on again after scoring the hundreds of goals that he has. Hopefully he can contribute to a really positive season for us.”

Both Dawson and Rhodes are expected to start against Bristol City this weekend, while Dele-Bashiru’s performances in the Carabao Cup have seen him vying for a starting spot in the league as well.
