'It takes time' - Sheffield Wednesday boss responds to boos after Stockport County draw

Latest S6 news...

Henrik Pedersen understands Sheffield Wednesday fans’ frustrations after boos met the full-time whistle against Stockport County.

For the second week running, The Owls put in a disappointing attacking performance and were held to a goalless draw. The Hatters were the stronger team at Hillsborough, controlling large parts of the game and having 18 shots compared to Wednesday’s two. The visitors missed a big chance in the first-half when Harry Wood blazed over and Ryan Glover headed against the post.

As for The Owls, they managed just two shots on target, the first on 39 minutes, which was met by sarcastic cheers from most of the 32,000 inside the ground.

Pedersen said: “We would all love to entertain them from the first to the last moment, and we all have big ambition, and it's okay. They have big ambition for us, and we also have this ourselves. But of course, it takes a little bit time.

“We all want much, much more. The players are doing all what they can to find this rhythm to bring this team together. We still young, but we're working really hard to get this flow into the game, to get this speed into the game, and the boys are working really hard for this. That's why we're looking forward now to having some weeks where we can train in this part of the game.”

Despite success home draws, Wednesday have still made a good start to the season, sitting second in the table with just one defeat, but they have failed to score in three of their four home matches. However, with 18 summer signings, it was perhaps always going to take some to gel.

Pedersen added: “We want to have a higher intensity. We want to have really aggressive pressing. We want to have quick transition. We want to be dominant on the ball. But we are still young in this direction, and it takes time. But we work so hard for this every day to improve in those areas so we can be dominant against the teams who press high and be dominant against the teams who stay deep on the pitch, and this is what we are working for every day.”
