Another former Sheffield Wednesday man finds a new home after Owls exit - David Bates is off to Belgium
and live on Freeview channel 276
Bates joined Wednesday on loan at the start of the 2019/20 season from German side, Hamburger SV, but made just one appearance – the 1-0 Carabao Cup win over Rotherham United – prior to leaving back in June.
Now, as he looks to get playing again, it’s been confirmed that the 23-year-old centre back has signed for Cercle Brugge in Belgium’s top-flight on loan for the 2020/21 season and he’ll be hoping to make his debut next week when they face Royal Antwerp.

Hide AdThis news comes not long after Morgan Fox sealed a new deal in the Championship with Stoke City following his exit from Hillsborough, while another Owls exit, Steven Fletcher, is still in talks with Celtic regarding a return to Scotland for the campaign ahead.
With the new season just over a month away in England, Wednesday’s only signing so far has been the arrival of Fisayo Dele-Bashiru from Manchester City, and several of the other departing players from the end of the last campaign remain clubless as they wait to see where they will end up next.
Bates and Fox, however, will be focused on the task at hand as they get to work at Cercle and Stoke, while Garry Monk remains on the lookout for players to come in and fill the various holes left at Hillsborough by numerous departures.
