Palmer, who had to come off at half time of the Owls’ 1-1 draw with Queens Park Rangers over the weekend due to a back spasm, will no longer be travelling up north for their vital games against Israel and Slovakia.

The Star reported earlier in the week that, while Palmer’s injury is not serious and he could be ok to face Birmingham City later this month, these two games would be coming too soon for him.

That has now been confirmed, with a statement on the club’s official website today saying, “Liam Palmer has withdrawn from the Scotland national team squad after suffering a back injury.

“The Owls defender was substituted at half time against QPR at Hillsborough on Saturday and following a scan has been ruled out of contention for the Scots.

“Steve Clarke’s men are set to host Israel at Hampden Park on Thursday 8 October in the Euro 2020 play-off semifinal.”

Meanwhile, on his official Instagram page, Palmer said he was ‘gutted’ to be missing the games, adding that he’s ‘working hard to be back as soon as possible’.

Wednesday face Birmingham on October 17th, and will be hoping to have some good news on the injury front as they deal what is a bit of a mini injury crisis at the club at present, with the likes of Dominic Iorfa and Izzy Brown having had to sit out the QPR game because of hamstring and knee knocks respectively.
