Sheffield Wednesday manager, Xisco Munoz, says that he loves Troy Deeney - but wouldn’t give any information about whether he was a target or not.

Deeney and Munoz had an excellent working relationship together at Watford, with the forward playing a big role in the Hornets’ promotion bid with the Spaniard at the helm in the 2020/21 campaign at Vicarage Road.

Rumours have started to circulate this week of a potential Hillsborough switch for the 35-year-old after he spoke of a potential deal with an unknown club being wrapped up next week, but the Owls boss would say nothing other that he was still in contact with the former Birmingham City attacker.

"You know I have a good relationship with Troy,” he told the media after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with York City. “He is a good person and I love him. I have a lot of contact with him.

"But right now is the moment for what we can improve with all the situations. We are putting the focus on what the team needs and how we can stay in a good situation in the Championship. We are trying to find the players to improve the team.

"We are assessing the team and today we have got a better idea of what we can improve. Now is the moment for working.”

Wednesday’s only signing of the summer so far was the return of Reece James after last season’s successful loan spell, but Munoz will be looking to try and get a few new faces through the door as soon as possible as the Championship season draws closer.
