Monk has spoken often about the need to refresh the side at Hillsborough in preparation for the season ahead, a job made more important following the departure – and potential departure – of a number of key and experienced players in recent weeks.

With the likes of Steven Fletcher, Morgan Fox, Fernando Forestieri and Sam Hutchinson among those that have already made way, and no new contracts yet for Kieran Lee and Atdhe Nuhiu, the Owls boss doesn’t currently have much at his disposal with regards to 2020/21.

There are currently only 15 players contracted to SWFC who are over the age of 23, and the squad – as things stand – for the season ahead is certainly one that needs to be bolstered with some significant signings.

It appears that the recruitment process has started, though, with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru believed to have agreed a three-year deal after the Owls agreed terms with Manchester City, and no doubt the 19-year-old is one of many targets for Monk and his technical team as they plan for the future of the club.

Speaking after the draw with Huddersfield earlier this month, Monk spoke of a need for speed in the market when he was asked about Dele-Bashiru, replying, “There are discussions going on but it is not at a stage where I can say it is concrete or anything like that but, while we are trying to finish the season, we also need to be mindful of it is highly likely to be a quick turnaround."
