That’s according to the Owls boss himself, who speaking to The Star admitted that clarification over the club’s ongoing EFL charge is needed before they can press on with adding to a seemingly ever-shrinking squad.

Wednesday are in the unique position of not knowing what division they may be lining up in next season as they await the verdict of an independent disciplinary commission hearing that could result in a points deduction.

The all clubs, the Owls are also waiting on the clarification of number of other logistical factors, including when the season may start and how and when supporters will be allowed back into stadiums.

There has been widespread talk of a relaxation in FFP rulings for next season at least. The financial landscape for Football League clubs is largely unknown.

Asked how much work has already gone into drawing up a wish list as Monk looks to usher Wednesday towards the ‘younger, hungrier, more dynamic’ ideal he has spoken so much about, the Owls boss said: “A lot of work.

"It's just about having the clarity of everything, that's needed; when we start the season, all the other things we've talked about that I don't really want to comment on but we're all well aware of.

“Of course we've been working behind the scenes, preempting what we can and can't do, what we think we're going to be able to do and then we get to work, that's what we've been doing.

“We've got quite a few situations that we think could be good possibilities. It's then about moving forward with it.”

Wednesday are understood to be close to the permanent signing of young Manchester City midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, while the futures of soon-to-be out-of-contract pair Atdhe Nuhiu and Kieran Lee are uncertain.

Monk has spoken about his desire to bring Jacob Murphy back to the club from Newcastle United. The club are also understood to be assessing their options over a potential move for Wigan Athletic’s Josh Windass. Both players returned to their parent clubs this week after successful loan spells at Hillsborough.

“I've been speaking with the club for quite a while now and I think we know what type of players and what positions we need to bring in,” Monk said.

“But that's not just an overnight thing, like all clubs, now that the end of the season has come we'll start to see movement in certain situations across all clubs.

“All clubs have been trying to get to the end of this part of the season and you'll see now, moving past, we'll start to see things moving a little bit quicker.

“There's clarification that I need, it'll be coming in the next week or two, hopefully the wheels get moving and we'll see what we can bring in, what we need to do and what we can do.”
