The Owls are enduring a torrid run of results at present as they look to chip away at the -12 point deduction that they were slapped with ahead of the 2020/21 season, and after a promising start they’ve now lost four games in a row.

Wednesday’s weekend defeat to Wycombe Wanderers means that they’re now eight points away from even getting off the foot of the table, and even further away from making it out of the relegation zone – but Monk says that he has faith.

Speaking to the media after the 1-0 loss at Adams Park, the Owls boss said, “There’s a good spirit… Speaking to the players at the end, there’s a big spirit that will help them through this.

“I’ve got no doubt that they can get out of this, no doubt that those players are good enough to do this. They’re having a bad week, we’re all having a very, very bad week.”

And now they turn their attentions to a Bournemouth side that are unbeaten so far in the current campaign and are expected to be up there in contention for promotion at the end of the season – a daunting task for an out-of-form SWFC.

Monk, however, says that preparations will be no different, saying, “I’ll try and prepare them, give them the best preparation I possibly can to try and help them, to give them belief and confidence. To try and push them as hard as I can, like I’ve always done, and it’ll be no different from preparing for any game I prepare for.”

Tuesday game will be the first meeting between the two sides since 2015, and their last encounter at Hillsborough ended up with the visitors winning 2-0 in 2014 thanks to goals from Andrew Surman and Ryan Fraser in a game when Royston Drenthe was sent off while the score was still 0-0.

Wednesday will need to drastically improve this week if they’re going to get a result over Jason Tindall and his team, with pressure mounting on Monk amongst the Wednesday fanbase with every passing defeat.
