Former Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Hooper could be back in the UK this season after leaving Wellington Phoenix at the conclusion of his contract.

Hooper scored eight goals in 21 appearances for the A-League side after moving down under last October following his release last summer from the Owls.

Phoenix announced the news of their website, and went on to say: “We thank Gary for his contributions to the club and wish him all the best for his future.”

The 32-year-old could still do a job in England or Scotland should he decide to come back here.

Injuries hampered the final year of his spell at Wednesday but he scored an impressive 31 goals in 89 appearances before making the move to Wellington.
