Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder lands non-league managerial role

Tommy Miller, who played in two season for the Owls from 2009-2011, has taken the reins at National League North side Spennymoor Town, having acted as the club’s caretaker boss since the departure of Jason Ainsley in December.
Miller scored nine league goals in Wednesday’s first season in League One after relegation in 2010 and left in controversial circumstances, accusing former Owls boss Gary Megson of going back on the promise of a new contract.

Hide AdSpeaking after his appointment, the 42-year-old told Spennymoor’s official website: “I’m delighted to be appointed to be appointed Spennymoor Town manager on a full time basis.
“Having been at the club for just under five years now, I know how professionally ran everything is and the plans in place to take Spennymoor Town forward.
“There is a lot to sort and organise in preparation for the new season, but I can’t wait to get started as it’s something I have always wanted to do since finishing my playing career.”
The North East club are operating at the highest level in their history and have ambitious plans to step on.

Hide AdMiller also spoke of bringing new players to the club and will no doubt be keen to utilise contacts built up in a playing career that took him to Ipswich, to the Premier League with Sunderland and to Huddersfield and Swindon.
“I’m confident that with the players I bring into the football club,” he said, “alongside the group we already have, we can be right up there when it matter next season.”
